Bled is located on the southern foot of the Karavanke mountain range near the border with Austria, about 50 km northwest of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. The most prominent feature of Bled is its emerald-green Alpine lake with the only island in Slovenia. The first traces of human settlements date back to the Stone Age. Due to its mild mountain climate and natural beauty Bled is today Slovenia’s most popular tourist resort and renowned convention centre, offering a range of different activities, including golfing, hiking, biking, watersports and canyoning. Thermal springs (23 °C or 73 °F) that originate near the north-eastern part of the lake now supply the swimming pools of Bled hotels (Grand Hotel Toplice, Park and Golf hotels).
